Live (audio) from the Blogosphere!

Info: On Saturday, February 15th, I provided a live Shoutcast mp3 stream of an event in Los Angeles called Live from the Blogosphere! Now that it's over, an mp3 archive of the stream is available for download. Unfortunately, the archive isn't perfect; it begins just after Xeni said her opening welcome, and the panelists gave their own mini bios. Evan is first, and only a little cut off. There also may be one or two 2-second skips (my broadcasting machine lost connection with the server twice, but I reconnected immediately). But, other than that, it's pretty darn complete and it sounds great.

Get the mp3 archive (18.6 megs, 1hr 21mins): Thanks to Xeni and archive.org: Download via HTTP or FTP

Contact: If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to send 'em my way.

Mini-blog: (updated in the days leading to, and during, the event; now left here for posterity)

Sorry for the quick cut out at the end. As soon as Xeni finished her closing words, they shut down the wifi. Audio archival of this evening's contents is soon coming. Stay tuned. (gabe: saturday at 03:27)

It's over. I'll let the music go for a bit. (gabe: Live at 21:27)

A link msg'ed to me. (gabe: Live at 21:04)

One listener told me that my audio stream is "1000 times better" than the audio quality of the Realplayer video stream. Surprised? Me neither. 27 listeners right now. Come on in. (gabe: Live at 20:52)

Keep the IM's comin'. I'm loving the feedback. O_=-) (gabe: Live at 20:31)

Max users is now 30. Please report any stream ickyness via IM. (gabe: Live at 20:08)

So, I'll have to watch the stream. Every once in a while it's dropping connection to my server. Please excuse any momentary interruptions. Also, I'm thinking of making the max users a bit higher (I think my server can _probably_ handle it. But, to be sure, I'd like to have at least one of the listeners chatting with me. Send me an IM (aol: Gaberuni) if you'd like to be that special someone, please. (gabe: Live at 19:40)

Richard will be taking some pics. Check them out here. (gabe: Live at 19:33)

We're LIVE: The feed is up and running. The wifi net seems to be holding up. Barring any disconnects, I'll be streaming live for the duration of the evening. Are you listening? Send me an IM (on aol: Gaberuni) (gabe: Live at 19:30)

Everything seems to be working. I've just completed a test broadcast with no problems and the stats page looks like it's working. I've got a directional and omnidirectional mics (we'll see which one picks up sound better depending on the environment), a table stand, and plenty of feet of cable. I hope you'll tune in tomorrow night =-) (gabe: saturday at 02:14)

I've setup a page to see current stats from the server here. If you check the stats before the event begins, don't be surprised if you don't see much, as you'll probably only see stats related to my test streams and connections. (gabe: friday at 18:36)

Again, thanks Yale, for buying me a Griffin iMic, which will hopefully get me better results than the Sony box. Will test as soon as he gets it to me. (gabe: thursday at 17:48)

Thanks to Yale, I've got this very nice analog to digital input converter (Sony DVMC-DA2). I've got an omnidirectional mic hooked up, but sadly, OS X doesn't seem to recognize the box as an audio input source. It could be the mic, but I don't think so. Worst case scenario: I use my iBook's internal mic. It's actually not bad at all. I'll try another mic tomorrow. (gabe: thursday at 01:53)

I'll be doing my initial broadcasting tests sometime today or tomorrow to determine the quality of the stream and any other logistical wierdness. (gabe: wednesday at 11:33)
